YoYo lives in the Crenshaw, California home that her grandmother first bought over 80 years ago. Over the years, both her mother and grandmother made some major renovations to the home, but nearly all of them without professional help. “My mom had just ‘Mickey Mouse’d’ it, but had never done it the right way,” she said. For example, she described the walls as, “covered by decades of paint, wallpaper, and contact paper.”
Rather than buying another home in the expensive Los Angeles area, YoYo was considering a remodel to revitalize the bathroom in her Spanish-style home. Her friend Melvina caught wind of this and jumped at the opportunity to recommended One Week Bath. “Melvina said to me, ‘You’ve got to use them.’”
With her busy schedule, she knew that a typical remodel would require a substantial amount of her time, which she didn’t have to spare. Since One Week Bath has a streamlined process, it seemed that a remodel with them would work with her busy lifestyle. “They specialize in bathrooms. This is what they do.”
YoYo has a rich artistic background. As a jeweler, she’s very in tune with her own style. One Week Bath’s owner & founder Matt Plaskoff worked as the designer on this project, and he met with her for an in-home design meeting to help design her dream bathroom. “Matt asked me ‘Of all the bathrooms on the website, which ones had the feeling you liked?’” Together they designed a contemporary bathroom with dark colors and natural materials. “The colors all go together,” YoYo explained. “The beautiful dark colors of the grout tie in with the vanity and the mirror. I’m very into custom surfaces too, surfaces that look natural. The dark colors in the room have a very organic feel, and they’re all framed with the white crown molding.”
At the design meeting, she began to truly understand the value and ease of a One Week Bath remodel. “Matt brings everything to you. You don’t have to leave your house looking for the right piece of furniture.” After Matt left, she called the team requesting a few tweaks to the design. The team was very accommodating; they made sure her new bathroom would be exactly what she wanted.
During the design meeting, Matt assured her that the rest of the remodeling process would be just as enjoyable. “Matt told me, ‘If you like me, wait until you meet the crew.’” When they arrived at her home on her construction start day, she was very pleased. “Customer Service? No. This was Customer Care. They made me feel so at ease.”
The crew treated her home just as nicely as they treated her. “I was just so grateful for what the guys did. They treated my home like a 25-million dollar home, even though it’s not. That really meant a lot to me.” She even recommended a name change for the business. “They should change their name to ‘One Week Bath and Beyond and Beyond.’”
Halfway through the remodel, YoYo was so impressed with the crew that she spoke to a friend of hers, ex-NBA star Magic Johnson. She told him that she wanted to thank the crew in a special way. Magic gave her six signed basketballs all personalized for each member of the crew. The next morning when the crew arrived, she had written a colorful, creative personalized note on the protection paper throughout the home, thanking the crew for their work and presenting them with the gifts.
She now describes her bathroom as her “own little museum in the corner of the house. It’s a beautiful piece of architecture framed by white crown molding, in place and perfect.” It might even be the last bathroom she’ll ever need. “Matt gave me everything I wanted, so much so that I’ll never have to call Matt again. The guys made it happen.”
